Santana DGPs

Data Gathering Panels

Santana DGPs are general purpose Data Gathering Panels for collection, distribution and control of discrete digital signals (alarms, faults, status signals, controls). They use multiplexing techniques to cost-effectively carry multiple signals over a single communications cable. They can be used in any application requiring transmission of discrete digital signals:

  • from one place to another;

  • from a large number of locations to one location;

  • from one location to a number of locations;

  • collected and distributed between multiple locations based on built-in cause and effect charts, time zones etc.

These units are available in several formats (ie. different input and output quantities) and can be supplied as standalone units enclosed in metal cabinets with or without power supplies) or as modules only (circuit boards) for integration into OEM systems.

DGPs Available

H-Type DGP

This model is designed to meet the specific demand for a 16 input and 8 output unit, working through a single communications link.

H-Type DGP - Fixed 16 Inputs / 8 Outputs

X-Type DGP

This model incorporates the latest multiplexing technology, providing up to 24 inputs and 24 outputs. All can be used simultaneously working through a single communications link. All inputs and outputs can be selected at site without programming or modification, providing total flexibility to the installer.

X-Type DGP - Fixed 24 Inputs / 24 Outputs

Customized DGPs

DGPs can be made to order to handle 24, 48, 72 (or more) discrete digital signal transmissions.

A number of boxed options are available, with or without PSUs

Alarm Management

One of the more common applications for the Santana DGPs is in Alarm Management. A Santana 900 Series Management Terminal (eg. Santana Pro) is incorporated into the multi-point circuit, providing a number of additional functions :

Output Control

One or more outputs can be turned on or off, depending on the state of one or more inputs. The logic to carry out this function is held in the Santana Alarm Management Terminal. Outputs can also be turned on or off by deliberate action by the operator.

Timezones

The Santana Alarm Management Terminal permits the automatic or manual turn on or off of specific outputs at predetermined times throughout the year, using an in-built site-programmable Timezone Management program.

Networking

Up to 32 DGPs (X-Type with 24 input and 24 output points each, others with total of 24 input/output points each) can be linked to form a node connected to the Santana Pro Central Alarm Management Unit. Using a Santana Integrator Integrated Network Management System, it is possible to have 26 nodes and hence a maximum of 26 x 32 DGPs (i.e. 39,936 points).

Applications

Point-to-Point Transmissions

In its simplest form inputs/outputs received at one location by one X-Type DGP produce corresponding outputs/inputs via a second X-Type DGP at a different location (and vice versa) using a single 2 or 4 wire communication cable between the two. Using standard models, up to 24 discrete signals can be handled simultaneously (in either direction) by a single pair of DGPs using a 2 or 4 wire communication cable on a two-way basis. Up to 72 discrete signals can be handled simultaneously (in either direction) by using three pairs of DGPs.

Multi-Point Transmissions

For Multi-Point requirements, it is possible to use up to 16 Santana DGPs, distributed throughout a building. All are connected by a single twisted pair cable to a Control Module, enabling each DGP to manage up to 24 inputs/outputs. The Control Module provides a limited automated response program (“Cause and Effect”) controlling the inputs and outputs on the DGPs.

Mimics & Repeater Applications

A variation of the multipoint transmission is where a large quantity of signals (alarms, faults, status etc.) are extracted from an intelligent panel (such as a multi-loop addressable analogue fire panel) through a Santana Translator/ Controller module and then distributed to DGPs to drive mimics, repeaters etc. The number of DGPs and the total number of inputs and outputs on the system will be dependent on the type of panel and Translator/Controller used.

Standard Features & Benefits of Santana DGPs

  • Available as modules only or as standalone units in wall mounted hinged metal cabinets.

  • Option of battery/mains charger for standalone units.

  • Screw-type plug-in terminals for ease of installation and maintenance.

  • No special crimp tools needed, enabling speedy connections on site.

  • RS485 2-wire communications built-in providing an industry standard communications medium.

  • Current Loop transmission with built in repeaters is also available (using one optional 4 or 8 channel spur card for each network) enabling the use of a range of cables and reliable operation in noisy environments.

  • Optically isolated inputs ensuring no electrical connection between inputs, eliminating interference and earth loops.

  • Processor-based operation for intelligent operation and error-tolerant communications.

  • Built-in diagnostic LEDs enabling speedy faultfinding/communications.

  • Site configurable adding even further flexibility to input/output assignment and alterations.
